ANEMIA FROM CHEMOTHERAPY
New medication to increase red blood cells for patients on chemotherapy. This therapy is FDA approved for patients with anemia from chronic renal failure.
LUNG CANCER
Oral anti-angiogenic drug. Available for patients whose cancer has progressed, or who cannot tolerate chemotherapy. Must have diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer.
New drug to protect white blood cells while getting chemotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer. Patients must be over 65 years old and cannot have had chemotherapy for lung cancer.
BREAST CANCER
Herceptin for high-risk, Non-metastatic breast cancer. Patients will be randomly selected to receive standard chemotherapy treatments for this cancer with or without Herceptin. Patient's tumor must be HER-2 Neu Positive. Herceptin is a monoclonal antibody approved by the FDA for use in Metastatic Breast Cancer. This study will determine if it is effective in preventing a recurrence or metastasis in high risk, her-2 neu positive women.
Different combination of approved chemotherapy for high-risk, node-positive patients. The objective of these studies is to evaluate the tolerability and survival of the different combination therapies.
FDA approved oral chemotherapy for patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer. This study will evaluate if this new chemotherapy is effective in breast cancer. This drug has been shown to cross the blood brain barrier. Patients must have been previously treated with Taxol or Taxotere and Adriamycin or Epirubicin.
METASTATIC MELANOMA
New therapy to make cancer cells more susceptible to chemotherapy. Patients cannot have been treated with chemotherapy for their metastatic melanoma. Patients will be randomly selected to receive standard chemotherapy with or without experimental drug.
